Dear Readers,

I am thrilled to welcome you to the inaugural issue of MOS MAG, the official Magazine of the Museum of Scroll. I’m Mariam Waheed, and it is both an honor and a pleasure to serve as your Editor-in-Chief.

The Museum of Scroll was born in 2020, just a year after I graduated from university. My artistic concern at that time was the impact of social media, I was looking at many different ways. This world of virtual reality had become the very lens with which we were looking at the world. I also explored and experimented with mediums presented to us due to the internet. So naturally when Covi-19 shut down the world, I felt that I was already exploring the very medium with which the world had to communicate and get creative with. Being a fresh graduate with little to no opportunities presented to me, I, with a few of my fellow artists and friends launched MOS, our motto being changing the way we looked at art practices and ethos. We felt it immediately to disown the authority of the gallery or the white cube, the monopoly of the medium or the size, We presented two exhibitions named “Double Tap” and “Manifest” which dared to ask the artist to ask the important questions of how the virtual space can be utilized to talk about artistic concerns.  With the overwhelming response we got from the little online community we built over time, we wish to continue doing our part for the art community. 

I am filled with excitement to start this new sub-venture of MOS, Which again seems like the need of the hour. To have a publication that can help archive artistic ventures and support artists is absolutely necessary, we hope to embark on this journey with you all.
